We need the participation of people like you if we’re going to effectively advocate for fair tax policies—one key way of restoring sanity to our nation’s public finances and revitalizing our economy by restoring purchasing power and upward mobility to America's middle class.
Below are links to two essays I’ve written from my perspective as someone who has benefited (at least superficially) from the tax policies that have hurt our country. Both have run on the Coffee Party website and been syndicated in newspapers nationwide.
Also, please listen to a recent Coffee Party Radio show that I co-hosted with Annabel Park. Economist Dean Baker joined us for the first hour to discuss the Financial Speculation Tax (popularly known as The Robin Hood Tax), and why he and many others feel it would stabilize the US economy and help to balance our budget.
But we need more than my story out there. We need your story, too…and those of your family, friends and neighbors. We need the voices of everyone affected by our current out-of-whack tax and spending system if we’re really going to make the case for a tax system that allows us to grow our economy and make the social investments our people deserve. Whether you’re well-off and think you’re receiving tax breaks you don’t need at a time of soaring deficits and devastating budget cuts; or you’ve been the victim of those cuts, or know someone who has; or you’re simply a citizen who wants to restore balance and common sense to our tax code and fiscal policies—America needs to hear from you. This is a critical time to share your story. You’ll be joining in a fundamental debate going on right now about how we raise and spend money as a national community. Choices made over the next year will affect national finances and America’s wellbeing for decades to come.

In the coming weeks we will be making clear to our political leaders, the media and the public that there are Americans who look past all the “job creator” and “class warfare” rhetoric and see the truth. We know from personal experience that our fiscal system needs reform if it is to truly reflect our national values.
